Promises, Promises
When I met you baby
I promised to make you mine
I promised I’d be there for you
Whenever you needed my time
And to this day that promise
Was one that I held to
I was hoping that my promise
Would keep me near to you
Promises promises,
We all make them that’s true
But the promise of my promise
Was my way of loving you
We became much closer
Our intent was on display
We were a committed couple
Together every day
You told me that you loved me
You promised you would stay
Our future was looking brighter
Getting better every day
Promises, promises,
We all make them that’s true
But the promise of your promise
Would only make me blue
Chorus:
A promise can be given
A Promise can be kept
A promise can be broken
A Promsie can be wept
A promise can be made
A promise can be implied
Your promise of our future
Was a promise denied
Promises, promises
You promised to be true
But the promise of your promise
Would only make me blue
Now little did I know
There was trouble up ahead
You found another lover
Someone you’d rather love instead
You didn’t think about the promise
To always be true to me
You only thought about the promise
Of what another could be
Promises, can be real
And then maybe not
When you promised me forever
I guess you just forgot
Promises, promises
You promised to be true
But the promise of your promise
Would only make me blue

Better Days
Better Days
Better days are comin baby, better days it's true,
cause baby my days are better, since the day that I met you!
Before I met you baby, things were going bad.
The banks were out of money, and holdin out their hands.
The man said we had to save them, or else we’d go to hell.
That’s when the trouble started, and folks began to yell!
Then things for me, went from bad to worse.
Only your love could save me, from this economic curse!
That’s why Better days are comin baby, better days it's true,
cause baby my days are better, since the day that I met you!
We managed to get past that mess, escaped that ugly scene.
When the man said, as people, we’ve been awful mean.
He said there were folks out there that didn’t have the wealth,
To buy insurance, and maintain their good health!
I lost my job after that when the boss couldn’t pay.
If I could eat insurance, I’d be better off today!
Still, Better days are comin baby, better days it's true,
cause baby my days are better, since the day that I met you!
Now I’m waiting, for that other shoe to drop.
It seems what we exhale, has to be stopped.
We’re polluting the planet, the Earth is getting hot.
The only way to fix it, is to buy windmills in Iraq!
If I didn’t know better, I’d think it’s all a plot.
Another way to take our paycheck and send it to Bangkok!
But, Better days are comin baby, better days it's true,
cause baby my days are better, since the day that I met you!
Chorus:
There’s always something else, that will bring you down.
Another way to take your money, by some other elected clown.
Or some gold diggin woman, that will play with your heart,
And a drunk in the bar, that’s inchin to start!
Now all that’s behind me, I’m ready for change.
You’ve given me hope, now my life’s rearranged.
I can’t get a job, but who needs one anyway.
Cause I got this guitar, that I’m willing to play!
I’ll sing songs about you, and how you changed my world.
And how you’ve made my days better, now that you’re my girl!
That’s why Better days are comin baby, better days it's true,
cause baby my days are better, since the day that I met you!
Better days are comin baby, better days it's true,
cause baby my days are better, since the day that I met you!
